March 16 eve of departure

As I pack my bags and check off my long list I feel the emotions of joy to be returning to serve the women and children I've grown to love so much and at the same time I feel the sadness of leaving my dear family, friends and puppies. These emotions remind me of what Afghanistan is like. At one moment you can be feeling the joy of helping a child and then turn to look and see another childs pain and suffering as he wades through a canal of polluted water looking for something he can salvage to sell to pay for his food for the day. And you cry for him and wish you could help every suffering child. Then there is the sweet smell of the beautiful fragrant Afghan roses but, as you turn your head you see the rubble of a bombed out home, a place where a family at one time laughed and cried and nurtured each other and enjoyed their own beautiful flower garden. Afghan's love flowers and kite flying and birds and music. They are loving people who have touched my heart deeply and I am grateful to go back again and serve them and experience their beautiful culture. It is a country full of extremes. Innocent children, war lords, beautiful and amazing women who hang on to hope against all odds, terrorist networks, joyful children flying kites and running free and opium growing everywhere to sell across the world to those full of greed and making a living off of anothers pain and addictions.

I will miss my family deeply and I always pray I will return to them! I also know this is the work my Father in Heaven wants me to be part of. It heals my heart everytime I am able to be a friend, offer a listening ear, a warm hug, a gentle word, a sweet smile with the resillient women and loving innocent children of Afghanistan. It is music to my ears when I arrive and hear the children greet me with "Ah, Salam Alakeum, Hala Diana Jon". it is the sweetest sound and fills my heart with joy and love.

I want to thank everyone who helps to make this work possible! It takes the support of many to be able do this work and I am so grateful I am the recipient of your kindness and that I get to carry it forward to a far off country to share with so many loving resillient women and children looking for hope.

Thank you so much to everyone for all you have done to make it possible to bring hope to the women and children of Afghanistan.

I will write as soon as I can and let you all know how Lynda and I are doing and try to give you a taste of our wonderful adventures!!

With Love and gratitude,
Diana
